1. Compulsory English Preparatory Program

As stated in Article 49 of the Higher Education Law, the main duties of the Departments of Foreign Languages ​​within the School of Foreign Languages ​​are to prepare the students who will receive education in a foreign language for this education and to raise them to a certain level in the target language. In this context, the Department of Foreign Languages ​​within the School of Foreign Languages ​​of Harran University carries out studies to eliminate the deficiencies in foreign language and improve the qualifications of newly enrolled students to departments that partially or completely conduct their education in a foreign language. The aim of the program is to help students whose foreign language is insufficient according to the foreign language level determination exam applied at the beginning of the semester not to have any difficulties in their academic adventures and to use the language they have learned confidently. Another aim of the program is to train students who are academically equipped in four language skills, who can follow department courses in a foreign language, and who can follow current scientific and technological developments.

2. Noncompulsory English Preparatory Program

The Department of Foreign Languages within the School of Foreign Languages ​​of Harran University tries to identify the deficiencies in foreign language and improve their qualifications for the students who have just registered to the departments where the language of education and training activities at the university is completely Turkish. The purpose of the Noncompulsory English Preparatory Program is to measure the language levels of the students enrolled in the program, and to enable the students who are inadequate in terms of foreign language to understand certain linguistic structures as form and function and to use this knowledge in real life. Another aim of the program is to enable students to gain oral/written expression and interaction skills by feeling confident and competent in various contexts.

OBJECTIVES

1. Compulsory English Preparatory Program

In line with the aforementioned aims, the aim of the Compulsory English Preparatory Program is to help students gain listening, speaking, reading and writing skills by using up-to-date educational technologies; to improve students' grammar knowledge and enrich their vocabulary. In addition, the program aims to provide students with the ability to watch publications related to the fields of science and to participate in scientific activities. In addition, students who are included in the program and successfully complete it are expected to gain the communication skills they will need in the social life of the modern age. In this context, the Compulsory English Preparatory Program consists of student-centered, process-oriented and modern approach-based courses, online studies, homework, project and portfolio studies, thus aiming to provide students with versatile study skills.
 
2. Noncompulsory English Preparatory Program

In line with the aforementioned purposes, the aim of the Noncompulsory English Preparatory Program is to help students gain listening, speaking, reading and writing skills by using up-to-date educational technologies; to improve students' grammar knowledge and enrich their vocabulary. In addition, the program aims to provide students with the ability to watch publications related to the fields of science, participate in scientific events and benefit from foreign student exchange programs. In addition, students who successfully complete the program are expected to achieve an acceptable level of accuracy in expressing themselves, express their ideas in an understandable way, participate in discussions effectively, and make presentations that meet their needs. In this context, the Noncompulsory English Preparatory Program consists of student-centered, process-oriented and modern approach-based courses, online studies, homework, project and portfolio studies, thus aiming to provide students with versatile study skills.
